Undergraduate Students

Carolyn Jones

Hi, my name is Carolyn Jones! I am a current fourth year undergraduate student getting my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, with minors in Biology, Physics, and Applied Biotechnology at the University of Georgia. After graduation, I will be staying an additional year to pursue my Master of Science in Comparative Biomedical Sciences while applying to medical school, with a long-term goal of going into emergency medicine. My research goals in the Amster laboratory are centered around using various mass spectrometry techniques to analyze and characterize proteins.

Riya Patel

My name is Riya Patel! I am an undergraduate 3rd year pre-medical student double majoring in biology and psychology and minoring in human development and family science. My future upcoming plans include pursuing medical school and long-term goals of becoming a family physician. My research goals are directed towards analyzing mass spectrometry to solve bioanalytical chemistry using different macromolecules.

Brandon McBride

My name is Brandon McBride and I started undergraduate research in the Amster lab in the summer of 2023, between my 3rd and 4th years at UGA. I am currently pursuing my chemistry degree and am hoping to graduate in May 2024. My plans include pursuing a career in the chemistry industry, and potentially furthering my education after completing my undergraduate degree. Previously, I have studied proteins during my undergraduate research, with an emphasis on top-down proteomics and separations of protein mixtures. My current research is focused on analyzing complex mixtures of glycosaminoglycans, which are biomolecules that have a variety of important functions in organisms.
