Graduate Students

Elijah Roberts

I received my Bachelors degree in ACS certified Chemistry with a concentration in Materials science from James Madison University in 2017. After that I worked as a bartender and cook, and then started working in an analytical lab where I ran GC, GC-MS, and LC-MS. In 2019 I joined the Amster group at UGA where I have studied intact proteins and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) using mass spectrometry and capillary zone electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CZE-MS). I also develop software to interpret MS data for GAGs and develop code to process large omics-like datasets for GAGs. During my time at UGA, I have also been a TA for general chemistry, megalab (instrumental analysis), and I currently run client samples on the 12 T FT-ICR mass spectrometer for the Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry Core facility at UGA.

Jonathan Choi

Jonathan graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He joined Dr. Amster's lab in 2020 as a Ph. D student in chemistry. He is currently researching the structural analysis of glycosaminoglycans using high-resolution mass spectrometry and capillary electrophoresis. He also dabbles in protein analysis with high-resolution MS.

Yiqing Zhang

n 2015, Yiqing Zhang (Iching) graduated with BS degree of Material Chemistry from Ludong University. Then, he went to Chicago for Chemistry Master Program. Yiqing graduated with a M.S. in chemistry from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2018. He continued his chemistry study at UGA in 2018 Fall and joined Dr. Amster’s research group. Right now, He is pursuing a Mass spectrometry research career. His research is focusing on the development of capillary electrophoresis orbitrap platform and the characterization of glycosaminoglycan. He is obsessed with the advancements in translational medicine over the past twenty year

Jeremy Risher

I graduated from the University of South Carolina – Aiken in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. After choosing UGA as my graduate program, I joined the Amster lab in 2023. Currently, my research is focused on isotopic fine structure of dissolved organic matter in river systems as well as partially and fully isotopically enriched proteins using high resolution FT-ICR mass spectrometry. I hope to begin work in MALDI imaging in the future.

Dr. Jandi Kim

Jandi graduated with a master’s degree in chemistry from Changwon National University in 2015. She started graduate school in the chemistry program at UGA in Fall 2018 and joined Dr. Amster’s research group soon after. Now, she has been interested in analysis of glycosaminoglycans and developed MS/MS methodologies to analyze them with other separation methods. She loves traveling and furry friends. In addition, Jandi is a foodie person, so she wants to visit different places and eat different foods!
